What is P.E.A.C.E.? The P.E.A.C.E. Movement is a ministry of New Beginnings Church of Chicago developed to make a difference in the lives of families in Chicago by developing programs to: P - Promote Non-Violence E - Equip Ex-Offenders A - Assist the Poor C - Care for the Sick E - Educate the Next Generation There are five challenges that affect the people of our community and communities around the world. We call them Community Giants. The Problem Violence. Not only does violence have a negative impact on the individual, but it affects the lives of family members and spreads to the community. Violence in our homes, schools and neighborhoods will continue unless we create methods to prevent violence. Equip Ex-Offenders. As federal and state correctional institutions steadily release record numbers of ex-offenders each year, the communities into which prisoners are released are unprepared to sustain the burden of the massive reentry movement. Assist the Poor. Nationally, more that 1 out of every 4 people live at or near poverty. Children are particularly vulnerable. Of all the people living in poverty in America, 1 out of every 3 is a child under the age of 17. Everyone should have the opportunity for fair housing and provisions for their families. Care for the Sick. In our community people suffer from diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, drug addiction and countless other ailments. Many of these illnesses can be prevented and treated if diagnosed in the early stages. There is a strong relationship between health insurance and access to medical services. Health insurance makes a substantial difference in the amount and kind of health care people are able to afford, as well as where they obtain care. Educate the Next Generation. It is a statistical face that the crime rate is inversely proportionate to the education level of the culprit. Children who grow up in families that do not stress the importance of education are more likely to live on the streets, do drugs, join gangs, and eventually prison. Education is the key out of poverty. The P.E.A.C.E. Movement was developed to attack these community Giants.
